Canadian pole vaulter and Olympic bronze medallist Alysha Newman has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit for Whereabouts Failures.
Athletics Canada, the national governing body for track and field, confirmed the suspension in a release on Wednesday.
“This is an unfortunate situation and Athletics Canada hopes to see Alysha Newman back as part of our National Team Program when she is eligible,” the organization said as part of a statement.
Decorated Olympic swimmer Penny Oleksiak was also banned from competition last year stemming from three whereabouts failures. Newman is the first Canadian woman to medal in pole vaulting at the Olympics.
More to come.
