Yukon-born hockey player Gavin McKenna has been charged with assault, according to court documents obtained by CBC News.

McKenna is a top NHL prospect currently playing college hockey in Pennsylvania.

Court documents filed with the state of Pennsylvania say McKenna was charged earlier on Wednesday by the State College police department for offences that allegedly occurred on Jan. 31.

When reached by CBC News on Wednesday, John Hanna, associate director of strategic communications at Penn State University, said the school is “aware that charges have been filed” but would not comment further.

McKenna is facing four charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
