Torrential rainfall of up to 40 centimetres in just 24 hours has battered the Iberian Peninsula, much of it already waterlogged by earlier winter storms, leaving at least one person dead in Portugal and forcing thousands from their homes across Portugal and Spain. Charlotte Lam reports.
